He Called You, Yes, You

As a young child, parents will often define some of the traits their children develop and begin to sort them into categories of favorable and unfavorable. Some of these traits are naturally defined as wonderful and others seems to raise a concern for the parents. For example, parents complain about their child being “stubborn” or “picky”. And all of these traits, in their unrefined state can definitely cause a parent grief. But when these traits embrace God’s vision for their life, these negative traits take on a new definition.

Matthew, disciple of Jesus, was a tax collector. He is great example of a chosen son that didn’t fit the prototype of a person qualified to walk with Jesus. Tax collectors were known to be cheaters and collaborators of the government. So why was Matthew chosen? The truth is that because he was a tax collector, it probably meant that he was educated and detail oriented. A person who demands money from people each day, is also a very bold person. Matthew was chosen for those very traits that he used perhaps, unrighteously. But Matthew fit the criteria for the job that was intended for him, since the beginning of time.

You see, because Matthew said “Yes” to following Jesus, his traits, anointing, and skills began to align with his original purpose. Matthew wasn’t only qualified and experienced by the natural, he was also authorized by heaven to walk with Jesus.

Jesus doesn’t categorize our traits and characteristics by what He may or may not want to use. It’s actually quite simple. If we say “Yes”, then He will use it ALL for His glory.

If you are stubborn, be stubborn for the things of the Father.

If you are loud, shout “Blessed are the meek and poor”.

He wants all of you. He will gladly fine tune the traits that seem to hold you down, and He will redefine those traits to bring Him glory.

You are qualified and You are authorized.

As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. Psalm 18:30
