Religion or Relationship?
I have heard it said, “Religion is a guy in church thinking about fishing. Relationship is a guy out fishing thinking about God.”
Throughout this journey called life, it is easy to develop our own set of Do’s and Don’ts that can crowd out the importance of relationship with Yahweh. Good choices should never become a substitute for communion. From the beginning of time, Yahweh desired man to talk with Him. His original intent was relationship! Trust and open communication are necessary and cannot be replaced by good deeds. As we press into the Father and understand His heart, we are more effective in life and impacting the lives of those assigned to us. On the contrary, allowing our understanding of God to be dictated by our behavior confines us to a religious box. There is no evidence of life growing there! Jesus refers to this in Matthew 15:8, “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” Today may we be mindful of what is important to our God and make it important to us. And whatever we find ourselves doing, may He occupy our hearts and minds!
